It’s always best to call us for advice. Here are some of the most common emergencies and what to do until you reach our Torrance office.
Call right away for
- Severe and unrelenting tooth pain
- An abscess or infection with swelling or fever
- Moderate to severe cracking or breakage exposing the tooth’s nerve
- Uncontrolled bleeding following trauma or extraction
- A lost filling or restoration
- A lost permanent tooth
What to do before you arrive
- Knocked-out tooth Do not touch the roots. Try to place it back in its socket or store it inside your cheek.
- Broken or chipped tooth Gather any pieces and bring them with you if possible. Rinse your mouth with warm water.
- Significant facial swelling Apply a cold compress to your face and take over-the-counter pain relievers to ease discomfort.
- Severe tooth pain Take over-the-counter pain relievers and apply an ice pack to your face.
If you’re bleeding severely, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
